The Kittiwake is a medium sized gull and is the UK's most numerous. Other than breeding, which is usually in colonies on the edges of cliffs, it spends the rest of the year out at sea.
The typical lifespan for a Kittiwake is 12 years. However, an individual aged 26 years has been recorded from a ringing recovery.
